www.inverclydenow.com/news-detail2.asp?ID=2972SIX Lane Entrance At Dock Approved 06 June 2009 A SIX-lane road entrance to James Watt Dock, Greenock, has been approved by councillors. The new road into the dock off the A8 is part of plans to redevelop the area. The road will have two lanes going into the dock area and four lanes at the junction coming back out on to the A8 East Hamilton Street, although further into the dock the whole road will reduce to four lanes. The junction will also have traffic lights. Inverclyde Council’s Planning Board has approved the application by developers behind the multi-million pound James Watt Dock urban regeneration project. The Planning Board was told Transport Scotland had not objected to the proposal and would be responsible for ensuring the safe movement of traffic along the trunk road. Councillor David Wilson, chairman of Inverclyde Council’s Planning Board said: “This is evidence of the ambitious plans for James Watt Dock. Wearing my other hat of chairman of Sail Inverclyde which is organising the Tall Ships in 2011, this road improvement will make what is already a significant event even more successful by improving access to the dock where the ships will be berthed.” Police and roads officials had expressed concern over another set of traffic lights appearing on the A8 but head of planning Fraser Williamson felt that problems could be solved by co-ordinating the various lights.
