Councillors backed the £80m proposal for land at Princes Dock, next to Liverpool’s World Heritage site. The scheme had come under fire from architecture experts, but Liverpool council’s planning committee approved it yesterday after visiting the site. The tower will include 133 apartments, a 129-bed hotel, offices and leisure facilities. Developer Mersey Property Company will also contribute £200,000 towards a “supercrossing” to improve pedestrian links between Princes Dock and the city centre. Company director Paul Bullock said: “We are delighted. “The development will regenerate a brownfield site and provide homes, shops and office space as well as a dynamic new building on Liverpool’s waterfront. “We are keen to get started on the project as soon as possible.”
