Kings Waterfront - The Destination

Kings Waterfront is the single largest development site in Liverpool City Centre. A partnership of Liverpool Vision, English Partnerships, Northwest Regional Development Agency and Liverpool City Council has worked jointly to promote its development as a visitor destination of international quality combining arena, conference and exhibition facilities.

The centrepiece of the project is ACC Liverpool, comprising the Liverpool Echo Arena and BT Convention Centre. ACC Liverpool is already hosting a number of spectacular events as part of the City´s Capital of Culture celebrations in 2008, along with international and national conferences, exhibitions and conventions. Adjoining ACCL and an integral part of the overall development are two new hotels, retail outlets, riverside apartments, offices, a public piazza and multi storey car park.

LIVERPOOL’S prestigious Kings Dock project is going back to the drawing board after the collapse of one of its developers.
Officials have announced a full review of the multi-million pound plans for the waterfront site, already home to the ECHO arena and BT convention centre.
There has been doubt about the scheme since developer City Lofts announced it was going into administration in July.
The firm was due to play a key role in the development of the 15-acre section of Kings Dock still awaiting regeneration.
About 430 flats were due to be built on the largest remaining piece of the site, but co-developer David McLean Homes postponed the scheme after feeling the effects of the credit crunch.
With housing projects now increasingly unpopular among construction companies, bosses at English Partnerships and Liverpool Vision will now decide whether to shift the focus of Kings Dock’s future to leisure, entertainment and tourism.
A Liverpool Vision spokesman said the project will be reconsidered: “A review is to be done on the masterplan, recognising the market situation and that City Lofts and David McLean Homes are no longer involved. This is an opportunity to look at what sort of place Kings Dock might be, with the arena and convention centre being so successful. The waterfront has been enhanced as a visitor destination, which was not part of the original masterplan.
Kings Dock was originally earmarked as a new home for Everton FC, but the ambitious scheme fell through in 2003.
The £146m arena and convention centre opened in January, followed by two hotels.
The waterfront site was to be home to more than 1,700 homes, offices and shops by 2015.
